What's new in ClarShot

Every version, in plain language. Updates arrive through your browser's store on their own; ClarShot never checks for them itself, because it makes no network requests.

To see which version you have, open your browser's extensions page and look at the ClarShot card.

Version 1.0.1 17 September 2026

The first update after launch. Like everything in ClarShot, all of it runs on your device.

  • PDF with real pages. A full-page capture can be split into A4 or Letter pages, portrait or landscape, and the editor shows the page count before you download. One long page is still available.
  • Recordings you did not save are no longer lost. If the recorder tab was closed, the browser crashed, or you stopped a recording and forgot to download it, the popup's Record tab lists it for 7 days. Open it to watch and download, or delete it.
  • Files on your computer. On a PDF or a page opened from your disk, ClarShot now explains that the browser needs “Allow access to file URLs” turned on once, and opens the page where that switch is.
  • Clearer sharing. Copy tells you where to paste (an email, a chat) and confirms when the image is on the clipboard. The recording page explains how to send the video file.
  • Feedback while a file is prepared. Large exports show “Preparing the file…” instead of a silent pause before the download starts.
  • A round of small fixes from the launch review.

Version 1.0.0 16 September 2026

The first public release, on Microsoft Edge Add-ons.

  • Screenshots: visible area, selected area, and full page with sticky headers and lazy-loaded images handled, plus a timer for menus and hover states.
  • Annotation: arrow, rectangle, ellipse, highlighter, text and step numbers. Blur and pixelate are burned into the exported file, then crop.
  • Export: PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, or copy to the clipboard. One click makes a PNG much smaller and keeps it a .png.
  • Screen recording: a tab, a window or the whole screen, with microphone and tab audio, an optional camera bubble, MP4 where the device supports it and WebM everywhere. No time limit.
  • Recent list: the last 10 images you exported, in the popup, on your device.
  • No network requests, no account, no watermark. Six permissions, each explained on the site.
