Your captures never leave your device
Our privacy promise
In free mode, we cannot see anything, because nothing ever leaves your browser. This is not a policy decision we could quietly reverse. It is how the product is built:
- Zero network calls. The free extension makes no requests to our servers or anyone else's. You can verify this yourself: open Chrome DevTools on any extension page and watch the Network tab. It stays empty.
- No account, ever, for local features. Capture, record, annotate, export. None of it asks who you are.
- No telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporters, no ad SDKs. Not "anonymized" tracking. None.
- Your captures live on your device. In your browser's local storage and your Downloads folder. We have no copy, so there is nothing we could lose, leak, sell, or be forced to hand over.
- Minimal permissions. We request only what capture requires, and we publish a plain-language justification for every permission. We never request access to your browsing history, your accounts, or third-party services.
Pro (paid, optional, still local). Pro will add presentation and video polish. It runs on your device exactly like the free version: zero network calls. Your license is a signed key checked offline, stored only in your browser and never synced anywhere. Buying it happens on clarshot.com through our payment provider; the extension itself never learns who you are.
Screen captures are among the most sensitive data that exists: they contain whatever was on your screen. We believe a capture tool has no business seeing any of it. So we built one that can't.
Privacy policy
The promise above is the readable version. The policy below is the full version, written to satisfy the Chrome Web Store, the GDPR and Romanian law. Both say the same thing.
1. Who this policy covers
ClarShot ("ClarShot", "we", "us") is a Chrome browser extension for taking screenshots (visible area, selected region, full page) and recording your screen (a tab, a window, or your whole screen), with a built-in image editor. It is provided by ROEM NOSIS SRL, a company registered in Romania. This policy covers the extension and this website. It does not cover the Chrome browser, your operating system, or any website you capture; each of those is operated by someone else and has its own terms and privacy policy.
2. Our core principle: everything stays local
ClarShot is built local-first. Everything you capture, annotate, and export is processed and stored on your own device, inside your browser. ClarShot has no user accounts, no servers of its own, and does not transmit your captures or your activity anywhere. Chrome Web Store policy requires us to describe how ClarShot handles your data even though that handling happens only on your device. The sections below do exactly that.
3. What data ClarShot handles, and where it is stored
All of the following is stored locally on your device and is never sent to us or to any third party:

Your screenshots and recordings can, of course, contain whatever is on your screen, including personal information, if you choose to capture it. Because ClarShot keeps that content on your device and never sends it anywhere, you remain in control of it. ClarShot does not read the content of your captures for any purpose other than showing, editing, and exporting them for you.
ClarShot does not use Chrome's sync storage, so nothing about ClarShot is synced through your Google account to other devices.
4. What ClarShot does not do
- No accounts or sign-in. You do not create an account, and we hold no profile about you.
- No network transmission of your content. ClarShot makes no network requests. Its fonts and code are bundled inside the extension, so it does not even fetch resources from the internet to run.
- No analytics, telemetry, or tracking. ClarShot contains no analytics or tracking code and does not measure your usage.
- No advertising. There are no ads and no advertising identifiers.
- No selling or transferring of data. We do not sell or transfer your data to third parties; we do not use or transfer it for any purpose unrelated to ClarShot's single purpose of screen capture and recording; and we do not use or transfer it to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
- No watermark is added to your captures or recordings.
ClarShot's handling of data is limited to what is necessary for its single purpose, in line with the Chrome Web Store Limited Use requirements.
5. Permissions and why we ask for them
ClarShot requests only the minimum permissions its features need. It requests no access to all your websites and no host permissions.

For screen, window, or full-screen recording, ClarShot uses Chrome's built-in screen-sharing chooser. That chooser, and your click in it, is your consent; it does not require any additional permission.
6. How your data is used
ClarShot uses the data above only to provide its features to you, on your device: to take your captures, let you annotate and crop them, record your screen, remember your interface preferences, and export files when you ask it to. Nothing else.
7. Sharing and disclosure
ClarShot does not share your data with anyone, because your data never leaves your device and we never receive it. There are no third-party services embedded in the extension.
One thing to keep in mind. When you export a file, ClarShot saves it where you choose. If that folder syncs to a cloud service (OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox), that service, not ClarShot, may then upload your file according to its own settings and policy. ClarShot itself never uploads anything.
8. Retention and your controls
- A capture handed to the editor is consumed by it; leftovers are removed automatically within minutes.
- The popup's Recent list keeps only the last 10 images you saved or copied. Remove any of them, or all of them, from the popup at any time.
- Pieces of an unfinished recording are removed after 24 hours.
- If you uninstall ClarShot, the browser removes ClarShot's local storage and preferences. Files you have already exported are yours and are not affected.
- Because we hold no data about you on any server, there is nothing on our side to retain, export, or delete.
9. Security
Keeping your content on your device removes an entire class of risk: there is no ClarShot account to breach and no ClarShot server holding your captures. Your local captures are stored using your browser's standard storage, protected by your browser and operating system.
To be clear and not overstate this: ClarShot does not add its own encryption on top of the browser's storage. Anyone who can use your device and your browser profile could open ClarShot's local data. Protect your device the way you protect the rest of it, for example with a screen lock and, if appropriate, full-disk encryption.
10. Children
ClarShot is a general-purpose tool and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect any information from children, and in fact does not collect information about any user, of any age, on our side.
11. This website
clarshot.com sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from third parties: fonts, images and video are served from this domain. The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel's servers handle your IP address to deliver the pages and may keep short-lived technical logs for security; we do not use those logs to identify or track you.
If you email us, we keep the correspondence for as long as it takes to help you. When Pro launches, the purchase itself will be handled by our payment provider on this website; what it collects, and why, will be described here before the first sale.
12. Your rights, GDPR, and Romanian law
ClarShot is provided by ROEM NOSIS SRL, established in Romania. This policy is written in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and Romanian Law no. 190/2018.
Because your captures never leave your device and ClarShot has no servers or accounts, we do not access, receive, or store any personal data about you or your captures. In free mode there is no processing of personal data on our side, and therefore no controller relationship between us and you. We publish our identity and the supervisory authority anyway, for transparency.
Under the GDPR you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, and data portability over personal data an organisation holds about you. Because we hold none, there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct, or erase; you manage your local ClarShot content directly, as described in section 8. If you have any question about your data and ClarShot, contact us and we will help.
Right to lodge a complaint. If you consider that your data-protection rights have been infringed, you may lodge a complaint with the Romanian supervisory authority, the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP), B-dul G-ral Gheorghe Magheru nr. 28-30, Sector 1, Bucharest, Romania, www.dataprotection.ro, or with the supervisory authority in your own country of residence.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as ClarShot evolves. When we make a material change, we update the effective date at the top and note the change in the extension's listing. If a future version of ClarShot ever involved sending any data off your device, this policy would describe exactly what, on what legal basis, by whom, and for how long, before that feature handled any data. The core capture and recording features will remain local.
